Reader Emil writes in re: the Lada post to alert me to this excellent video about Armenia's car culture. It's by a band named Hay Tgheq and the title apparently translates to "We are our cars." Unfortunately, no Ladas, only fancy sports cars and, improbably, a plane. But check it out:
I also toured a cemetery in Gyumri yesterday and came across this intriguing headstone, clearly this man loved his Lada (or Moskvich or Zhiguli, I can't quite make out which it is):

Josh: you missed at least one Old Volga (Gaz-21) and one Lada in the video. And Niva, known locally as "dortchkhar" i.e. 4x4 (this comes from the name of 4 and 4 throw in nardi) is mentioned. They even make a point in the song that it doesn't matter if the car is "Sovetakan" or "firma," as long as it's "pimped up."

There you go :) I take some comfort in that they are similar to Italian men, who as I heard, love their cars better than their wifes.

If you know of somewhere with all the lyrics, I would be very grateful, I know I'm missing 95 percent of what is interesting about that without knowing the Armenian...
