In my continuing effort to bring you the best amateur talent in the breakaway republics of the Caucasus, I have a little footage from the Victory Day celebration held in Tskhinvali, South Ossetia, on Friday. This was apparently a sort of amateur version of the real one, which will take place on the actual Victory Day of May 9. (The Victory referred to is by the Soviet Union over Germany in World War II.)
In general, it was a litle staid -- it reminded me of the Lawrence Welk show sometimes. But there were some cool things, like this Ossetian song about seven Ossetian brothers who died in the war, apparently a true story:
And this, a popular Russian war song, Katyusha, remixed in a sort of techno fashion and sung by the show's diva-esque MC. This one really brought the house down.
